Let Miller’s Towing Hook You Up!

Need towing on West Street in Wichita right now? Call Miller’s Towing & Recovery at 316-351-4754. Tell the dispatcher the nearest cross street, such as Central, Maple, Kellogg or Pawnee. Then tell us what you drive and where the car needs to go. You get the price before we hook up.

West Street is one of the main north and south streets on the west side. It also has repair garages, body shops and tire shops along much of its length. So a lot of tows either start here or end here. This page covers both kinds of calls.

Where West Street Runs

West Street runs through west Wichita about a mile west of Meridian. Four bigger roads cross it or connect to it:

Between those points, West Street crosses Central, Douglas, Maple, Harry, Pawnee and MacArthur. Those cross streets are how our dispatcher finds you, so look for the nearest street sign before you call.

6 Things to Know About Towing on West Street

1. The cross street matters more than the address

West Street runs for miles, and “I’m on West Street” does not narrow it down. Give the cross street and which way you were headed. A business name helps too. “Northbound on West, just past Maple, in the tire shop lot” gets a truck to you much faster than a guess.

If you do not know where you are, open the map app on your phone and read the dispatcher the blue dot location.

2. Get out of the travel lane if the car still rolls

Much of West Street has a center turn lane and many driveways. If the engine quits but the car still rolls, steer into a parking lot or a side street. Turn on your hazard lights. A car sitting in a parking lot is safer for you and easier for the tow truck to load.

If the car will not move, stay buckled in with the hazards on until traffic is clear. Then get out on the side away from traffic and wait well off the road.

3. The Kellogg and I-235 ramps need extra care

The ramps at West Street and Kellogg and at I-235 exit 4 carry fast traffic with little shoulder. If you break down on a ramp, stay in the car with your seat belt on unless you see smoke or fire. Call 911 if the car is blocking a lane.

Kansas widened its Move Over law in 2025. Drivers now have to move over or slow down for any stopped vehicle with flashing lights, not just police and tow trucks. KAKE reported that the change took effect July 1, 2025. Your hazard lights are what trigger it, so turn them on.

4. You pick where the car goes

We tow to the shop you choose. That can be a garage on West Street, a dealership on the east side, your driveway, or our yard at 4309 S Broadway. If you do not have a shop yet, we can hold the car at our yard while you decide. Ask about storage charges when you call.

Not sure the car needs a shop at all? A dead battery is often fixed on the spot with a jump start. A car that slid off into a ditch or a muddy lot may only need a winch out.

5. After a crash, you can ask for your own tow company

If Wichita police work your crash, you can tell the officer which tow company you want. Wichita Police Department policy gives a company you request 45 minutes to arrive. If you do not name one, the officer calls the next company on the city list. We explain how that works in choosing your own tow company after an accident.

6. Do not leave a dead car on the street for days

The City of Wichita limits street parking to 48 hours in one spot. The city lists that rule on its parking laws and enforcement page. A car left on a highway shoulder has the same 48 hour limit under K.S.A. 8-1102. After that, police can have it towed, and you pay the tow and storage. Moving it yourself is almost always cheaper.

Getting a Car to a West Street Repair Shop

Towing on West Street to a repair shop goes smoother with three quick steps.

  1. Call the shop first. Ask if they have room and if they take after hours drop offs. Many shops have a key drop box by the door.
  2. Tell us the shop name and address. West Street has shops on both sides and some share a lot. The exact address keeps your car from landing next door.
  3. Leave a note with the keys. Write your name, phone number and what the car is doing. The mechanic will see it before they see you.

If the tow is not urgent, you can book a time that fits the shop’s hours. See how to schedule a tow in Wichita. For more on shop drop offs, read towing a car to a repair shop.

What to Tell Us When You Call

Those answers decide which truck we send. An all wheel drive car or a car with crash damage rides on a flatbed. A car with a hot engine should not be driven any farther, as we explain in what to do when a car overheats.

Questions About Towing on West Street

How fast can a tow truck get to West Street?

It depends on traffic, weather and how many calls are ahead of yours. Our yard is on South Broadway near I-235, and West Street is a few exits west on that highway. We give you an honest ETA when you call, and the driver calls or texts when they are close.

How much does towing on West Street cost?

A tow price has a hook up fee, a per mile rate, and any extra charge for nights, holidays or special equipment. A short tow from West Street to a shop on the same street costs less in mileage than a trip across town. Call for the total before the truck is sent. Our guide to the real cost of towing in Wichita breaks down each part.

Can you tow my car from a West Street shop to a different shop?

Yes. Tell the first shop you are moving the car and settle any bill there. Then give us both addresses. Shop to shop moves are easiest on weekdays while both shops are open.

Do you only cover West Street?

No. We cover the whole city and the towns around it. See our pages on Rock Road and north Wichita, or the full list on our local towing page.

What if I break down on West Street at night?

Call the same number. We answer 24 hours a day. Pull into a lit parking lot if you can, lock the doors, and keep your hazard lights on until the truck arrives.
