What We Haul
From a push-button riding mower to a compact tractor with a loader, these are the machines we move most.
Riding Mowers and Lawn Tractors
John Deere, Cub Cadet, Craftsman, Husqvarna, Toro, and similar brands.
Zero Turn Mowers
Residential and commercial decks.
Subcompact and Compact Tractors
For example, a Kubota BX2360 weighs about 1,322 pounds (AllMachines), and a John Deere 3520 weighs about 2,900 pounds (AllMachines).
Utility Trailers and Small Equipment
Garden tractors with attachments, small skid loaders, and golf carts.
Odd Jobs
One Wichita mechanic called us to move his 72 inch rolling toolbox, which was worth more than his truck.
Typical Jobs Around Wichita
Most mower and tractor calls fall into one of these.
To the Repair Shop
Mowers that won’t start in April get hauled to repair shops on South West Street, North Maize Road, and West 29th Street North.
Home From the Shop
Picking up a repaired mower when you don’t own a trailer.
Moving Day
Your tractor goes from your old place in Derby to your new acreage near Goddard or Valley Center.
Selling or Trading In
Taking equipment to a dealer for trade.
Estate and Storage Unit Cleanouts
Moving equipment left behind in a garage or storage unit.
Landscapers
A commercial zero turn broke down at a job site in Bel Aire, and you need it back at your shop.
How We Load and Strap Your Equipment
A mower rolling around on a trailer is a common sight on Kellogg, and Wichita drivers on Reddit complain about it. Kansas law requires every load to be fastened so it can’t come loose, shift, or fall onto the road (K.S.A. 8-1906). Here’s how we do it.
1. Check the Machine
We look for fuel or oil leaks, flat tires, and loose parts. We note any existing damage and take photos before loading.
2. Lower the Deck and Attachments
Mower decks, loader buckets, and backhoe arms go all the way down. Federal cargo rules for heavy equipment call for attachments to be lowered and secured (49 CFR 393.130).
3. Tilt the Bed
Our flatbed tilts down to the ground, so the slope is gentle. That matters for low decks that would scrape on steep trailer ramps.
4. Drive or Winch It On
If it runs, the owner or our driver drives it up slowly. If it doesn’t, we winch it on at a crawl.
5. Strap All Four Corners
We use rated straps or chains at the frame or tie-down points, never the steering, deck, or seat. Federal rules for heavy machinery call for at least four tiedowns, one at each corner (49 CFR 393.130). We use the same method for a 600 pound mower.
6. Set the Brake and Check Again
We set the parking brake and recheck the straps after the first mile.
Tips Before Your Mower or Tractor Gets Hauled
A few minutes of prep makes loading faster and safer.
Don't Fill the Tank
A half tank or less is plenty, so fuel can’t slosh out.
Remove Loose Items
Take off grass catchers, cup holders, tools, and anything else that could blow off on I-135.
Clear a Path
We need a clear route from the flatbed to the machine. Tell dispatch about gates, soft yards, or slopes.
Have the Key Ready
If the mower runs, driving it on is faster than winching.
Tell Us About Attachments
Front loaders, snow blades, and backhoes change the weight and length.
Why Not Rent a Trailer?
You can. But here’s what Wichita homeowners run into.
No Truck Big Enough
Most SUVs and small pickups aren’t rated to tow a trailer plus a compact tractor.
Steep Ramps
Low mower decks scrape or hang up on standard trailer ramps.
Strapping It Right
Ratchet straps hooked to the wrong spot can bend a steering arm or snap loose.
Your Time
Picking up the trailer, loading, driving, unloading, and returning the trailer can eat up half a Saturday. When we haul it, it takes one call and one trip.
Areas We Cover
We haul lawn and farm equipment all over Wichita and the towns around it.
Longer Runs Across Kansas
For longer runs, ask dispatch for a per mile quote at (316) 351-4754.
What Equipment Transport Costs
Every job is quoted up front.
What Sets the Price
The price depends on the machine’s weight, how far it goes, and how easy it is to get to. A riding mower moving across town costs less than a compact tractor with a loader going to Mulvane.
You get the full price on the phone before we come out, with no add-ons when the truck shows up.
Check Your Coverage
Some homeowner’s insurance policies and extended warranties cover hauling a broken mower to a repair shop. Check before you call.
What Wichita Customers Say About Miller's
Miller’s Towing & Recovery has more than 300 Google reviews from local customers. Whether it’s a car, a pickup, or a mower headed to the shop, people keep mentioning friendly drivers, kind staff, and careful handling.
"Driver was friendly and tow truck and equipment was clean and well maintained."
Can you tow a riding mower that won't run?
Yes. We winch non-running mowers and tractors onto the flatbed slowly and strap them down.
How heavy a tractor can you haul?
Most riding mowers, zero turns, and subcompact and compact tractors fit our flatbed. Call with the make, model, and attachments, and we’ll confirm.
Do I need to be there?
It helps for loading, but it’s not always required. If the machine is in an open driveway or yard and you leave the key, we can load it and send you photos.
Will hauling damage my mower deck?
We tilt the bed low, keep the deck raised while loading, and lower it for travel. We never strap across the deck.
Can you take it straight to the repair shop?
Yes. Tell us the shop name, and we’ll drop it off during their hours or follow their after-hours instructions.
