Tell Dispatch These Five Things
The right truck shows up the first time when we know these five things.
1. Where You Are
A cross street or business name works best, like “Kellogg and Webb, eastbound shoulder.”
2. Year, Make, and Model
This tells us the weight and the right way to load it.
3. Drive Type
AWD, 4WD, front wheel drive, or rear wheel drive.
4. Whether It Rolls
Does it shift into neutral? Are the keys there? Is a tire flat or a wheel locked?
5. Where It's Going
Your mechanic, a dealer, home, or a body shop.
Flatbed, Wheel Lift, or Dollies: How We Pick
Our towing services overview covers the trucks we run. Here’s how we match the truck to your car.
Flatbed (Rollback)
All four wheels ride on the bed. We use it for:
- All wheel drive cars and SUVs. Many automakers say AWD vehicles should never be towed with wheels on the ground. Kia’s owner’s manual, for example, warns this can seriously damage the transmission or AWD system (Kia owner’s manual). Subaru gives similar guidance for most of its models (Motor1).
- Electric vehicles. Tesla tells tow operators to transport its cars with all four tires off the ground and to use Tow Mode before winching onto a flatbed (Tesla owner’s manual). Tell us if your car shows a low battery warning, because Tow Mode needs power.
- Lowered cars, classics, and project cars that haven’t moved in years.
- Cars with crash damage or a locked wheel. See accident recovery.
Wheel Lift
Lifts the front or rear wheels. It works well for many two wheel drive cars on short trips across town, and it’s quick in tight lots and narrow driveways.
Wheel Lift with Dollies
When a flatbed can’t reach the car, like in a low parking garage, we put the other two wheels on dollies. That keeps all four wheels off the ground.
Not Sure What Your Car Needs?
Look in the “Towing” section of your owner’s manual, or just tell dispatch the year, make, and model. We’ll take care of it.
Typical Tows Around Wichita
Most of our jobs are short hauls inside the city. Here are the kinds of runs we make every week.
East Douglas to South Broadway
A car headed to a transmission shop on South Broadway, a run Wichita drivers ask about often on Reddit.
Towne East Square to Rock Road
A dead SUV in the mall lot taken to a dealer on Rock Road.
I-135 Canal Route to Planeview
A pickup that quit on the Canal Route, brought back home to Planeview.
Koch Arena to 21st Street
A Wichita State student’s car near Koch Arena, towed to a shop on 21st Street.
Spirit AeroSystems to Derby or Haysville
Nearby Towns and Longer Trips
We also tow out to Park City, Bel Aire, Andover, Maize, Goddard, Valley Center, and Mulvane. For longer trips across Kansas, ask dispatch for a per mile quote.
Towing Motorcycles, Pickups, and Work Vehicles
Cars are most of what we tow, but not all of it.
Motorcycles
On the flatbed with soft straps, so nothing touches the paint or chrome.
Pickups and Vans
Half ton and three quarter ton trucks and full size vans.
Trailers and Small Equipment
Utility trailers, riding mowers, and small tractors. See mower and tractor towing.
Not Sure If We Can Move It?
Call (316) 351-4754 with the size and weight, and we’ll tell you right away.
What a Car Tow Costs in Wichita
Every tow price has three parts: a hookup fee, a per mile charge, and any extras like dollies or after hours work. You’ll hear all three on the phone.
Posted Rates for Police Called Tows
For police called tows inside Wichita, every company on the City’s emergency wrecker list posts its rates. Miller’s 2026 posted rate is $140 for a light duty tow, plus $8.50 per mile, with storage at $50 per day (City of Wichita). Most companies on that list charge $150 for the hookup.
Ways to Lower the Cost
- Check AAA first. Classic members get towing up to 5 miles, Plus members up to 100 miles, and Premier members get one tow up to 200 miles each year (AAA).
- Check your insurance and credit card for roadside or towing coverage.
- Pick the closest shop you trust. Fewer miles mean a smaller bill.
- Skip storage. If your shop is closed, use its after hours key drop instead of paying for a night in a yard.
Kansas and Wichita Towing Rules to Know
A few local rules that can save you time and money.
You Can Choose Your Tow Company After a Crash
Under Wichita Police Policy 404, ask the officer for the company you want. It must arrive within 45 minutes (WPD Policy 404). Our auto recovery page explains how.
Arrested at a Traffic Stop?
Officers may release your car to a sober passenger or leave it if it’s legally parked, instead of impounding it. Once you’re out of the Sedgwick County jail at 141 W. Elm, you’ll need your ID and current registration to get an impounded car back from the tow yard.
Towed From a Private Lot?
Private property tows follow Wichita City Code Chapter 11.99, which caps fees. See our private property removal page.
What Happens When Our Truck Arrives
Every car tow follows the same steps, whether it’s a driveway pickup or a highway shoulder.
1. We Set Up Safely
Lights on, and the truck parked to shield you from traffic.
2. We Check the Car
We note any existing scratches or damage and take photos before loading.
3. We Secure It at the Wheels or Frame
Never by the bumper.
4. You Ride Along If There's Room
Ask dispatch.
5. We Drop It Where You Asked
We confirm where the keys are, and leave them in the shop’s key drop if it’s closed.

How much is a tow in Wichita?
You’ll get our price on the phone before we hook up. For police called tows, Miller’s posted 2026 City rate is $140 plus $8.50 per mile.
Can you tow an all wheel drive or electric car?
Yes. We put AWD cars and EVs on a flatbed, or use dollies so all four wheels are off the ground.
Do I need to be with the car?
It helps, but it isn’t required for every tow. Call and we’ll go over what we need, like keys and proof you own the car.
Do you take cards?
Yes. City rules require licensed emergency wrecker companies to accept credit, debit, or cash at no extra fee.
Can you tow to a shop that's closed?
Yes. We use the shop’s after hours key drop, so your car is first in line when they open.
