If you need towing near Wichita State University, call Miller’s Towing & Recovery at 316-351-4754. We help students, staff, and visitors on and around campus, from 17th Street to 21st Street and from Hillside to Oliver. Most calls here are dead batteries, lockouts, and cars that will not start in a campus lot. This page covers five things to know: where calls come from, what the campus parking rules say about removal, what to do if your car is gone, what to tell our dispatcher, and where we can take your car.
1. Where We Get Calls Around the Shocker Campus
| Spot | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| Student and staff lots | Dead batteries after a car sits over a break, keys locked inside |
| The parking garage by the Rhatigan Student Center | Cars that will not start on an upper level |
| Koch Arena and Eck Stadium on game nights | Fender benders in crowded lots, flat tires |
| 17th and Hillside, 21st and Oliver | Crashes at busy intersections |
| Fairmount and the streets south of 17th | Older cars that will not start in a driveway or on the street |
| Innovation Campus on the east side | Staff and visitor cars with flats or dead batteries |
The campus sits in northeast Wichita, a short drive from K-96 and I-135. If you are farther north, see our page on getting a tow truck in North Wichita.

2. What WSU Parking Rules Say About Removal
Wichita State sets its own parking rules, and it helps to know them before you leave a car on campus. The university’s parking regulations say:
- An ePermit is required for all vehicles Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Student lots require permits around the clock during fall and spring semesters while classes are in session.
- Reserved spaces, handicapped stalls, fire lanes, and the parking garage are enforced 24 hours a day.
- Visitors get three free visits per semester.
The fines listed in the regulations start at $25 for no valid ePermit and run to $75 for blocking a fire lane, $100 for a handicapped space, and $150 for a reserved space.
The university also reserves the right to remove vehicles that are a hazard, that block traffic or pedestrians, that are parked in fire lanes, or that are found on campus again and again without a valid permit. The regulations say the owner or driver is responsible for all costs of removing, impounding, and storing the vehicle.
Visitors have a simple option. WSU’s visitor parking page lists hourly parking in the garage by the Rhatigan Student Center at $1.50 an hour, and a free park and ride from the Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th and Oliver during fall and spring semesters.
3. What to Do if Your Car Is Gone From a Campus Lot
- Check that you are in the right lot. It happens more than people admit.
- Call WSU Parking Services at 316-978-5526. Ask if the vehicle was removed, who took it, and where it is.
- If they have no record, follow our steps to find a towed car in Wichita. Those steps cover police impounds and private lots near campus too.
- If nobody has it, report it stolen.
Apartment complexes and businesses around 17th, 21st, and Hillside post their own tow away signs. Towing near Wichita State University from one of those lots is a private property tow, and the sign should name the company.
4. What to Tell Us When You Call
Campus is a big place, and “I am at WSU” does not get a truck to you. For towing near Wichita State University, give the dispatcher:
- The lot number or the nearest building, such as “the lot north of Koch Arena” or “the garage by the RSC, level 3”
- The nearest street entrance: 17th, 21st, Hillside, or Oliver
- What is wrong: will not start, flat tire, locked out, crash
- The year, make, model, and color
- If the car is in the parking garage. Garages have low ceilings, so tell us the level and we will plan how to reach it.
- Where you want it taken
You get a price before we send a truck. That matters on a student budget.
Try the cheaper fix first
A lot of campus calls do not need a tow.
- Dead battery. A car that sat through winter break often needs a jump. Our jump start service comes to the lot. Afterward, read how long to drive after a jump start so it starts again tomorrow.
- Keys locked inside. Our lockout service gets you back in.
- Out of gas. We bring fuel so you can get to a station.
If the quick fix does not work, the same truck can tow the car.

5. Where We Take Cars From the WSU Area
- A repair shop. Any shop in Wichita. Many students use shops along Hillside, Rock Road, or West Street.
- Home. A house in Fairmount, an apartment off 21st, or a parent’s driveway in Bel Aire or Andover.
- Out of town. If the car is going home for the summer or to a family mechanic in another city, see our long distance towing page.
- A dealer. Most are on East Kellogg, a few minutes south. Our page on getting a tow truck on Rock Road covers that side of town.
Short trips make up most towing near Wichita State University, and they are what our local towing service handles every day.
Game Nights and Move In Week
Two times of year are busier than the rest. On game nights, the lots around Koch Arena fill and empty all at once, and small crashes follow. During move in week in August, loaded cars and trailers crowd the streets around the residence halls. If you need help at those times, give us the exact lot and stay with the car so the driver can find you.
Questions About Towing Near Wichita State University
Does Wichita State tow cars?
The parking regulations say the university can remove vehicles that are a hazard, that block traffic, that are in fire lanes, or that are repeatedly on campus without a permit. The owner pays the costs.
Can a tow truck get into the parking garage?
It depends on the level and the height limit. Tell the dispatcher where the car is and we will tell you how we can reach it.
Is a jump start cheaper than a tow?
Usually, yes. Ask for both prices when you call. If the battery is the only problem, a jump is the faster fix.
Do you come to campus at night?
Yes. We answer calls 24 hours a day, every day.
I am visiting for a game. What if my car will not start afterward?
Call us from the lot and tell us which side of Koch Arena or Eck Stadium you are on. If you are from out of town, we can take the car to a shop or a hotel.
