Let Miller’s Towing Hook You Up!

If you need a tow truck in North Wichita, call Miller’s Towing & Recovery at 316-351-4754. We cover the north side from 13th Street up to Park City, including 21st Street, North Broadway, the Wichita State area, and the junction where I-135, I-235, K-96, and K-254 come together. This page explains what we see on the north side, how to describe where you are, and where we can take your car.

Our yard is at 4309 S Broadway. I-135 runs straight from the south side to the north side, so the trip is one highway with no turns.

What Counts as North Wichita

People use the name in different ways. For towing, we think of it as everything north of 13th Street, from Zoo Boulevard on the west to Oliver on the east.

Area Landmarks Typical calls
21st and Broadway Nomar International Market, older shops, rail lines Dead batteries, cars that quit at a light
29th Street North Warehouses, plants, truck yards Work trucks and employee cars that will not start after a shift
21st and Amidon Twin Lakes, the Little Arkansas River Flat tires, lockouts in store lots
Northeast Wichita State University, 37th Street, Heights High Student cars, fender benders at campus entrances
North junction I-135, I-235, K-96, K-254 Highway breakdowns and crashes on ramps
North edge Park City, 53rd and 61st Street North Travelers coming off I-135
Miller's Towing flatbed carrying a car, a common sight when drivers call a tow truck in North Wichita
Most north side tows are short trips to a repair shop or back home.

Broken Down at the North Junction?

The spot where I-135 meets I-235, K-96, and K-254 is the hardest place in North Wichita to describe to a dispatcher. Four highways share a few miles of ramps, and one wrong word sends a truck the wrong way.

Do this if your car quits there:

  1. Get to the right shoulder and turn on your hazard lights.
  2. Stay in the car with your seat belt on. Ramps have short sight lines and trucks come through fast.
  3. Dial *47 to reach the Kansas Highway Patrol if you are in a lane or on a narrow ramp. Call 911 if anyone is hurt.
  4. Read the nearest sign. Tell us the highway you were on, the direction, and the last exit or ramp sign you passed. For example: “northbound I-135, just past the 29th Street exit.”

Kansas law is on your side while you wait. Drivers must move over or slow down for stopped vehicles with flashing lights. KDOT explains the Move Over law here. We have more on these roads in our pages about roadside help along I-135 and emergency towing along K-96.

Why Drivers Call a Tow Truck in North Wichita

North Wichita is a mix of old neighborhoods, heavy industry, and highway. The calls follow that mix.

Cars that will not start after a shift

Plants and warehouses along 29th Street run long shifts. A weak battery that sat for ten or twelve hours in July heat or January cold may not turn the engine over. Our jump start service handles most of these without a tow.

Stalls near railroad tracks

Rail lines cross 21st Street, 29th Street, and North Broadway. If your car ever stalls on or right next to the tracks, get everyone out and walk away from the rails. Look for the blue sign posted at the crossing. It lists an emergency phone number and a crossing number so the railroad can warn trains. Call that number, then 911, then us.

Ramps and bridges in winter

Bridges freeze before the road does. The I-135 overpasses and the bridges over the Little Arkansas River are where cars slide first. If you end up in the grass or against a guardrail, our winching service can pull the car back onto the pavement.

Flat tires and lockouts

Store lots at 21st and Amidon and along North Broadway are where we find most of these. Tell us the name of the store you are parked at.

Roadside Help That May Save You a Tow

Not every call needs a tow truck in North Wichita. Many problems can be fixed where the car sits.

If the quick fix does not work, the same truck can tow the car, so you only make one call.

What to Tell Us When You Call

A tow truck in North Wichita gets to you faster when the dispatcher has these details:

Students and Staff Near Wichita State

The campus sits between 17th and 21st Street, from Hillside to Oliver. Parking lots there are busy during the week, and Koch Arena fills the area on game nights. If your car will not start in a campus lot, tell us the lot number or the nearest building. A dead battery is the most common problem, and a jump start usually fixes it on the spot.

If you parked without a permit and the car is gone, it may have been towed. Start with our guide on how to find a towed car in Wichita.

Questions About Towing in North Wichita

Do you cover Park City and Kechi?

Yes. Both are part of our regular service area, along with Bel Aire and Valley Center.

My car was towed from a lot on the north side. Who has it?

Check the tow away sign at the lot for the company name. The City of Wichita notes on its parking laws page that it is not a party to private tows, so police may not have a record of it.
